Living Hope
1 Peter 1:3 tells us that we have been born again to a living hope. What is a living hope? What is different about a hope that is living compared to one that isn’t? In reference to water, living means a stream or fountain, that which has moves of itself.
For the believer hope is not passive, it cannot be still, it must not be a placid ‘waiting for heaven’. Our living hope starts with new birth, and our hope grows as we grow – it matures and strengthens, it carries us along in our walk of faith. A living hope actively seeks out its goal, its telos.
A living hope lives out ‘Thy kingdom come’ whilst all the time praying ‘even so, come Lord Jesus’.
A living hope should put a spring in my step as I walk ever closer to my Lord, and His return…
