Ezra had gathered together those who would travel to Jerusalem to rebuild the city and the temple. Before they set out they fasted and petitioned the Lord. The reason? They were ashamed!

Ezra had committed them by his trust in God. How could they then ask the king for protection? They had boasted in the greatness of their God, they had set the rules of the game. God would show His faithfulness to His people.

So, instead of asking the king they threw all their effort into seeking God. They fasted and petitioned, and God heard! And God will hear me too! When I come before Him with the same heart: boasting in the Lord and totally dependent on Him, waiting and expecting Him to show Himself to be the great God that He is to the people that own His name!
