The book of the Law
2 Chronicles 34 – Josiah
Josiah was a good king. He sought the LORD and began a programme of reforms that aimed at restoration of true worship to Jerusalem. Yet, it was the finding of the book of the Law that made Josiah realise how far away from true worship he really was! A right heart is commendable, but it doesn’t guarantee right deeds! For that we need absolutes: for Josiah and Judah this was found in the book of the Law. This showed them their target and thus showed them by how much they had missed the mark.
Our absolutes come from our book of the Law: the Bible. Missing the mark is sin, and missing the mark by not looking at the target is greater sin! If we plan to live as God intended we cannot ignore God’s Word. Whether it be in our personal walk or in our corporate life as the Church we need to live by the book…
