Paul is quite clear, gifts are for one purpose alone: building up the body (1 Corinthians 14:6). This is why the gift of prophecy is contrasted with the gift of tongues. Whilst being spiritual people, we use our intellect to grasp the message (spiritual or otherwise). So, if the intellect is bypassed the spiritual message cannot be understood.

Everyone should have a part to play – their contribution to the growth of the whole, but without interpretation tongues has no place in public worship.

- be eager to prophecy
- don’t forbid speaking in tongues
- do all decently and in order
