A sense of Belonging
“who are called to belong to Jesus Christ” – Romans 1:16
We all need to be a part of something. We’re not made to be completely alone. That’s why family is so important, and why so often we remain in family situations even when the situation is harmful to us.
The Good News is simply that we are called to belong to Jesus Christ! There are two exciting facets to this:
1. Jesus Christ wants me! Even though I have pushed him away with my sin he still wants me! He has chosen me and he has called me. This implies desire and purpose on his part. The one who made everything and can have anything has called me! There is nothing better than to be wanted! It’s that facet of love that takes action to draw near the object of affection. I am the object of Christ’s affection!
2. I belong to Jesus! He made me, he owns me, but in an even deeper sense he owns me because he died for me, he gave his life for me! Redeemed! So, not only has Jesus called me, he has gained me! And that gives me peace and security. “He who comes to me I will not cast out.”
The all powerful God has personally called me and gained me, and will never let me go! Thank you Lord!
