Intercessor or opposer?

Moses was God’s man for Israel: personally appointed by God, who met with him face to face. In every situation where Moses’ leadership was called into question God backed him up 100%. But one time (Numbers 20:9-12) Moses overstepped the mark, and it cost him dearly.

The sin was one of presumption. he had been told by God to strike the rock and bring forth water, but for once Moses was not acting as intercessor but as a leader angered. He had just cause, but he had no mandate from God, and as Moses spoke for God his behaviour was wrong.

So, even the most humble man could overstep the mark. He needed to be corrected. It is a huge responsibility to lead God’s people and to speak on God’s behalf.

Lord keep me from ever presuming to speak for you instead of being a vessel for you to speak through. Keep me from a leadership of opposition and lead me into one of intercession for the flock, not one of brow beating them.
