The land God had promised to the Israelites was magnificent – wonderful produce, great cities, imposing people – just what you might expect God to give them. But the spies looked on the task of conquest as their task, not God’s
Only Caleb had the courage to conquer. It did take courage – in human terms the refugees from Egypt were no match for the Canaanites, but God had already given the land to Israel.
We must be sure of God’s promise, of his will for us, but when we are sure we must take courage to ‘go up’ and take what God has given. We need to take God’s promises as fact, even before they have been accomplished and act on that basis in complete confidence in him, not the situation.
