Moses: Loser to Leader in Ten Plagues
Moses was so lacking in confidence that he wanted Aaron with him to be his spokesman. God agreed and said to Moses that he would be to Aaron like God and Aaron would be his prophet.
For the first three plagues this is what happened: God told Moses to tell Aaron who stretched out his hand and the plague happened.
For the next two plagues we read that God took it upon Himself to act without Aaron doing anything.
Next Moses and Aaron are called on to gather ashes, but Moses distributes the ash for this plague.
The penultimate three plagues involve God commanding Moses to stretch out his hand. Even in his relationship with Pharaoh it is obvious that Moses is growing in faith and confidence with each plague despite Pharaoh’s stubborness.
God had told Moses that He had hardened Pharaoh’s heart to demonstrate His glory and power. That power was shown through making Moses the leader he needed to be for the children of Israel as well as through the plagues themselves. God always chooses His ‘man’ (or woman) to show His glory. His intention always has been to reveal His glory through the Church, beginning with His Son Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, but also through each one of us, who is willing however timidly to stand up and stand out for our God.
