Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Almost the last words in the entire Bible this phrase sums up the Christian hope and the sinner’s dread!
The book of Revelation describes in graphic images the fact that the One through whom the whole universe was created is going to come back once more into His creation, not as a man, but as Lord and Judge.
Revelation 22:13 says “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” Jesus is the ultimate reality, since before this world began and after it has long gone.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has put eternity into the hearts of men. We were made for more than just this world; more than a mere lifetime. But we need to live in the light of eternity. When Jesus comes He comes with final judgement – no more chances. The whole point of the Bible is to prepare us to meet our Maker.
Having put our trust in Jesus, knowing that He is coming back to claim His purchased possession (Ephesians 1:14) we too will be able to say with enthusiasm:
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
