But God has shown me…

Peter was an Apostle, he had healed the sick, raised the dead and preached the Good News to the saving of thousands, but he was also wrong!

Peter was a good Jew in the sense that he would keep himself apart from Gentiles. God in a dream showed Peter that it was His will that Peter go to the Gentiles. Peter found this to be a difficult step.

By the time he stood before Cornelius & his family he could admit that God had shown him that the Gospel was for all nations.

Did this mean that God was displeased with Peter before this point? It certainly didn’t affect Peter’s ministry. God uses us as we are at the time. Peter held passionately to his beliefs, just as he should have, but he was also humble enough to change, and to admit to that change.

God doesn’t expect us to get everything right at once, nor does He penalise us for lack of insight, but He does seek a humble willingness to change as He reveals His will, and for us to be ready to admit that we have changed. Ultimately, as with Peter this attitude will bear fruit for eternal life.
