The dreamer
Joseph had a thing with dreams. First they were his, then they were the dreams of others which he interpreted. This ability to interpret dreams was a gift of God, and Joseph acknowledged it as such “Joseph said to them, ‘Do not interpretations belong to God?’” Genesis 40:8.
It was dreams that got Joseph into trouble and dreams that got him out of trouble. This is very often the way it goes with God’s gifts. When we exercise His gifts they bring opposition from God’s enemies whilst being a blessing to the receiver. Joseph’s brothers, who should have cared for him were the ones who opposed him and it was Pharaoh the potentate who saw the value if not the nature of the gift and lifted him up!
So too it can be in our churches that those who should know better oppose the exercise of God’s gifts because they think they belong to the one who exercises them rather than God.
When we see God working through others we should praise God rather than oppose the one who is blessed with the gift – or we may find that we have been opposing God, not man…
