Taking hold of God

There is no one who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you;

So says the prophet Isaiah, and it is as true today as it was then. Why do we not see our God answer our prayers? Because we are not praying. I’m not talking about the dutiful 5 minutes after we’ve read our compulsory daily chapter, I’m talking about getting hold of God.

We just don’t get roused any more. We’re lukewarm believers with a lukewarm expectation from God.

The book of Revelation tells us that God’s deeds are ‘great and marvellous’ – do we really pray for great and marvellous deeds? Do we really hunger for God to act in our lives, or our churches? If we do we will rouse ourselves to take hold of God, and not to let go until He blesses us.
